We have been growing the Caturra variety in Colombia since 2019, together with Avelino Rodríguez, his wife Luza, and their ten children on their family farm, located in the Sierra Nevada at an altitude of 1,400 meters. The farm began with approximately 1.5 acres and today spans more than 15 acres.

THE ROAST

FULL CITY ROAST DROP>388.4°F

In our lab, we conducted cuppings at three different roast levels.
Our conclusion was that the flavors which best complement this coffee are actually achieved with a longer roast development — not the one we typically aim for.
We avoided overpowering acidity and strived to maintain both fruitiness and sweetness.
The medium roast we selected distinctly brings out flavors of hazelnut and chocolate.

Origin

High in Colombia’s Sierra Nevada, near the village of Palomar, a network of family farms grows exceptional coffee. Palomar — a hub for the region’s Evangelical Christian coffee growers — sits at 1,400 meters above sea level and serves as the gateway to this hidden paradise.

Farmer

Avelino Rodríguez, his wife Luza, and their ten children began with 1.5 acres and a dream. Through years of dedication, they expanded their farm to 15 acres. With Agrocafé’s guidance, they improved both yield and quality—transforming their land into a thriving coffee haven.

Cup

We selected a Full City roast (drop: 388.4°F) to elevate this Caturra’s profile. The extended development draws out velvety hazelnut and dark chocolate notes, softens acidity, and preserves its fruity sweetness. The result is a clean, comforting, and deeply satisfying cup.
